Electronics Technician II (IAMAW) | Linux & Homelab Builder
Freelance developer. Self-hosting enthusiast. Find my code on GitHub at mjdeiter.
I am a systems and electronics professional with over 18 years of technical experience in high-reliability environments. My background spans from hands-on electronics repair as an IAMAW member at Tobyhanna Army Depot to complex logistics analysis. Outside of work, I am a freelance developer and self-hosting enthusiast. I build websites and tools, run my own infrastructure, and enjoy Linux administration, networking, and automation.
Tobyhanna Army Depot (IAMAW) | Dec 2007 - Present
Over 18 years of experience conducting precision operational tests and complex repairs on critical military electronic systems. Responsible for maintaining strict ISO 9001 compliance and audit readiness.
Lockheed Martin | Sep 2024 - Apr 2025
Utilized AWARE, IFS, and SAP platforms for data-driven supply chain optimization and demand forecasting within complex transportation networks.
Designed and implemented a multi-VLAN home lab environment to isolate IoT devices from core infrastructure. Configured secure remote access using encrypted tunnels and reverse proxies.
Deployed a privacy-respecting SearXNG instance on self-managed infrastructure, exposed publicly via Cloudflare Argo tunnels with zero-trust Access policies and per-IP rate limiting. Aggregates results from multiple search engines with no tracking, no ads, and no user profiling.
Maintain and optimize Arch-based systems (CachyOS) with Btrfs filesystems. Implemented automated snapshot regimes and developed Bash scripts for system hardening.
Built and deployed brlinwell.com for B R Linwell Enterprises, an athletic equipment installation and maintenance company. Site runs on Astro with the Cloudflare adapter, deployed to Cloudflare Workers. Configured Cloudflare for SaaS to provision the custom hostname with automated TLS, plus Access policies to protect it.
Designed and built the site for Trackside Coffee. Dual-stack architecture: a static Astro storefront paired with a self-hosted WordPress/WooCommerce shop, both containerized behind a shared Nginx proxy.
Self-hosted email platform at ironmail.dev, running on Mailcow. Beyond the deployment itself (DNS, TLS automation, DKIM/SPF/DMARC, mail routing, a relayed outbound path, and nightly automated backups), designed and built a custom dark "oxidized-iron" theme for the SOGo webmail client — replacing the stock login and inbox styling with a cohesive rust-and-charcoal palette, custom typography, and a full accessibility contrast pass.
Extended the webmail with custom backend services and browser-side add-ons that survive Mailcow updates:
Designed and built the site for Boyd’s Behavioral Health Services, a provider of ABA and IBHS services for children and adolescents in Northampton, Lehigh and Monroe Counties, PA. Built as a WordPress site on the Astra theme with a Contact Form 7 inquiry form, then migrated from a demo environment onto the client’s own domain through their Cloudflare account with HTTPS. Includes local-business structured data for search visibility.
